Wanted: Intake or License Plate Delete Kit
 

If anyone has a short ram intake/cold air intake or front license plate delete kit sitting around or are willing to part with it that would fit on my 05 WRX please let me know! I am still saving for the down payment on the car, so I have roughly $150-$200 to spend that was left over from saving and was just curious before I tried to get a new one from Summit or somewhere. Does anyone have a preference on an intake brand or know first hand what is the best for the buck?! If so please let me know because all I have heard that is really good is the SPT one. Thanks

I have a multi piece intake that is in fender at full length and I believe is short ram if you leave off the last piece.

That said, do you have other mods and tuning to support the CAI? Typically, a CAI is very low on the list for a WRX as the stock box can handle about anything you can throw at it except a huge laggy turbo and FMIC.

Otherwise, a CAi might well be a big negative, not an improvement.

The AEM v2 is one of the better CAI on the market according to Matt(knucklesplitter)

It is bone stock besides an Apexi Turbo Timer. I understand what you are saying about it not really helping Dean and I hate to sound like a dweeb, but I really want the intake for the sound that I love for now, and as soon as I save for it in the next two months I plan to do a nice manifold, up and down pipe & such and turbo back exhaust (Probably Megan Racing). Then of course followed by a Cobb access port and some tuning by someone who knows what the hell they are doing. I will have approx. $500+ extra dollars to throw at it a month from September on so we will see how it goes after that. Thank you for the input and thoughts though.

Do you know what the V2 goes for or if they make it for the 05 WRX? I tried to find it in the AEM category for the 05 WRX on a few sites and only came up with the short ram and cold air intake that AEM offers. It looks like a very nice intake though and "they" claim it is the best.

Hey, if you know the intake doesn't do anythign for you performance wise, then you get the stamp of approval from us. But basically everyone will tell you that the AP should be the first engine mod, not the last, and you should only do mods that you can get Cobb-supplied maps for, until you can get custom tuned.

But to be honest... with $500/month extra... you're better off just going out and getting an STi while your WRX is still worth good money. It will probably take most of that $500/month between payment and insurance to get one, but you can't make your WRX as fast as a stock STi for $500 monthly anytime soon. In fact, if you drop $500 a month on your car... in two years you will have spent $12,000 and be almost as fast as a stock STi. ;)

I tried to get an STI along with a 07 WRX after getting shot down and the payment and insurance were an ungodly amount because I had an Identity Theft a few years back, that's why I went with the 05 WRX (Plus it is my favorite body style). They put so much crap on my credit that my score went from a 750 to about a high 400 to a very low 500 so I am already paying way too much for the WRX. Tried writing letters, police reports, etc, with little to no help. Considering I drove a 1998 S10 truck before this that I've owned for about 4 years, my insurance skyrocketed also. The Access Port is definitely very high on the parts to buy list though and will not be the last part I buy FOR SURE. Thanks for the advice on getting parts that Cobb has maps for! Do you happen to know where to figure out which parts they do make maps for so I don't make the mistake of buying the wrong stuff until I can afford to get it custom tuned down the road?! Hey man, I would be doing the same if I was in your position. The insurance rates for an sti are pretty steep. Good choice with the 05 body style! If you go to the cobb website I think you can read what mods are involved in each stage. The Access port was the very first thing I purchased for my car and yeah, right now it seems like an expensive accessory to my closet. But its a key building block. Goodluck man

Umm, your kidding right? Imprezif has spent about $2000 in performance mods and is already faster then a stock sti.

So, does that mean you are not interested in my intake? It is cheap and should give you the sound you are after.

Cobb's site and forums have basically all the answers to AP questions. If you can't find the answer there, try nasioc.

I don't define "faster" as trap speeds or ETs, and an STi with a turboback will be faster at autocross or on a racetrack. Plus, the STi will pretty much run forever at that power level and the WRX is putting a lot of strain on the drivetrain at a power level that will outrun an STi. I would much rather spend $35k on an STi than $22k on a used and modded EJ20 WRX.

I would prefer a stock STi t a modded EJ20 WRX... but I would prefer a turboback to that. ;)

I know what your saying, I think most people including me would prefer that. But due to credit, insurance, and just plain life, not everyone can have one. You can wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which fills up faster.

True. but with another $500 per month... I'd eat the disgusting insurance premium and not worry about my faster car blowing up (not nearly as much anyway).

if you like the sound just delet the silencer and walla. theres the sound. its free and it gets you to your goal. then your that much closer to the AP.

ebay exhaust is the exact same as the megan and is much cheaper. i got mine for 300 shipped.

Actually, doing the Snorkus delete is a much better idea than a CAI and is much less likely to hurt your car. At least try it before you get a CAI.

+1 for silencer delete. Leave the stock intake. I always suggest first power mods on a pre-06WRX as UP, DP, CBE (stock 3rd cat is fine if you get a shorty DP), boost/EGT gauges and a custom tune, preferably at the elevation you drive hard in. Heat wrap the UP and DP if they aren't thermal coated. Trim and re-use the stock turbo heat shield.

And definitely don't get the SPT intake. I've heard from multiple people that they fall off, which can (and has) blown motors.

I went ahead and bought an AEM Intake on lunch today at Summit before I even got to read the last 5 or so reply posts. It looks and sounds just like I wanted and now it is on to bigger and definitely better things like AP and turboback, up and down pipes, header, etc. There is nothing in the world I would want in this world than to own an STi, but that 500 bucks a month I have left over is a mostly for a buffer and car parts, not a bill like insurance or a steeper payment that would have to be paid monthly. This is my first Turbo Car, but I understand the difference that you say between the STi and the Modded EEJ20 WRX because I have ridden in and drove both, but for the money and the way my financials are right now the WRX is the best thing for me. Thank you guys very much I never knew I would get so many responses and help. Goes to show what a good group of guys are on here.

The AEM intake is notorious for skewing MAF readings subsequently making the car run lean. Do yourself a favor and at least read these:

Dam it that would have been really useful info yesterday, unfortunately I installed it and probably cannot return it. It's not a huge deal. I can always change it out for one of the ones that were on that list and I did keep all stock intake parts if I need to put that back in and hardware. Thanks for the heads up though. P.S. I'm still looking for a nice front license plate delete kit if anyone has one!

if you take it off and clean it up SUPER nice they will probably take it back just give thema little white lie and be like i took it out then didnt install it.

Just sell it on clubwrx or something, you won't take too much of a hit.
