Wanted: 1394 / Firewire cable(s)

Anybody got any laying around in their junk box/drawer/closet, etc...

I need a 6-pin to 6-pin and maybe a 6-pin to 4-pin.

Rather not give CompUSA $11 for a $2.99 cable or wait for shipping if somebody has them lying around.

khail19 2007-10-10 08:54 PM

If nobody has one, try Sandy's? They are usually pretty cheap for stuff like that.

Of course you wouldn't. :P

But what makes you think that people just have cables lying around? I know when I pay $11 for a $2.99 cable, it's 'cause I need it, which means either a) I'm still using it or b) I'm keeping it in case I need it again later, or c) I no longer need it but I'm not gonna sell it for cheap 'cause I paid $11 for it to begin with.

So, no $11 cables just "lying around" for Dean to buy at manufacturing cost here.

Sandy's is not cheap! I work in the A/V business and they are one of the worst for pricing.

I build servers at work sometimes, so I will check our computer fab room in the morning and see what I can find just "laying around". I'll PM you tomorrow around 4:30pm or so when I get off work to let you know.

I paid like $3 for the same USB extension that Circuit City wanted $12 for. Cheap enough for me. Is there someplace else in town you recommend?

Dean 2007-10-11 05:41 PM

Scott is grumpy.

I have part of a room full of USB and other cables, monitors, memory, processors and other Misc. PC parts, etc. and somewhere is a thread listing them and offering them up for free/trade.

I thought perhaps somebody else who did video or was a Mac head might have a similar drawer/box/closet, etc. with firewire cables.

And I ordered a retractable 6-6 cable with adapters to 4s if I need them.

You got lucky. We order online with a 1-2 day turnaround. Nobody in town has "cheap prices" usually. They know you need it "right now", so they inflate their prices. Sorry to irritate you or piss you off! Hope your day gets better today!

 I'm not irritated, why would you think that? I was just wondering if there's a better local place than Sandy's. Scott is the grumpy one. :P

Kavid 2007-10-12 07:12 PM

It will take A LOT more than that to scare me!

Kavid 2007-10-12 07:14 PM

No luck at the workplace today finding you a cable, mostly Firewire/USB Cables, but nothing like what you were looking for. Sorry about that!

Dean 2007-10-12 09:12 PM

No problem. Thanks for looking.

OMG. Is that really your stuff? That needs to be donated to one of the places that build low end Linux based systems that people can browse the web on, etc.

Nick Koan 2007-10-13 11:52 AM

Tyson, your dad has a problem.

I'm not sure that requires a "ZOMG". I didn't know what he did with them. Anyway, that's cool, good for him.

Edit: moved other question to other thread.
