Snowboard Season update
Just thought I'd give everyone an update of how my season is going so far. At the first race of the season I qualified 15 out of 46, but in the first heat I got taken out from behind and it ended my trip to Minnesota a little quick. Overall I ended up in 27th place, with 2.07 FIS points and nothing else to show. So basically a bust for that weekend.
For the past 10 days I have been out in Colorado racing the Copper Series. This was the 2nd stop of the Chevy Revolution Tour, the day started out ok, qualifying 22nd out of 66 in time trials. No matter what they only take the top 32 into bracket racing. In the first heat of the day I was almost destroyed on the first turn and could have protested because i was pushed, but I hung in there to take 2nd in the heat and move on. In the quarterfinals I was matched up with some bigger guys who almost flattened me once again in the first corner, however, I held my ground and squeaked past shooting out to the lead while they piled up. Easily taking the win for that heat. In the semi-finals I was getting stoked, no longer needing to ride a lift and hoping on a snowmobile to get to the top of the course. I no longer had to deal with getting cold and stiff on the 11 minute lift ride to the top. In the semi's I got the best pull and was off to the races and hung on for another win... Now I was in the finals!!! In the finals I was up against a Junior World Champion team member, a former x-Games and US Team member, and a 245 lb. monster of a guy who runs the Squaw Team.
Out the gate I had the lead but quickly fell to 2nd in the first turn, 3rd by halfway down the course, and got passed at the 2nd to last corner to finish in 4th overall. The board ran quick all day until the finals then is slowed up and just needed flouro on the base which i am out of.
If I would have won the race I would have an earned start spot at the Visa Championship/ Lake Placid World Cup in March, but with a 4th place finish and my previous results I am roughly 2 top 10 finishes out of a spot on the US team.
