Front end Noise/bearing?
Possibly need new bearings? I have a noise coming from the front of the car while on the highway. I have rotated the wheels to see if it had something to do with ballancing, but no such luck. I have also read that it would be easier to do an axle swap if that is the case(Bad bearing), but then I could be wrong. Ohh and the car has just reached the 70k mark..
I just PMd Sperry to see if he had any laying around. Ps: I will continue reading/searching online to find answers as well. Thanks again guys |
I just replaced a wheel bearing in my sister's Legacy.
It was making a loud noise at highway speeds at first (sounded like bad tires), then a month later it started making a louder noise during high-speed turning, then later the same noise at low speed turning, at which point it was brought to my attention. Clearly not a bad CV. There was no play in the hub, but when I got the knuckle off you could "feel" a rough spot turning the hub by hand. A new bearing and inner seal from NAPA and $30 pressing fee at the local driveline shop, and she was back in business. |

If you are eager to get it done, Napa probably has a bearing in stock. Whenever I have done bearings, Napa has had them. If not them, somebody has had them in stock. I have to replace an axle and bearing up front soon too.

I think Subaru stocks them as well. Not sure if there's a quality difference between the Napa bits and the genuine article... but for bearings I like to get the best available so I don't have to replace them anytime soon.
Also, rumor has it that there's a matching Nissan bearing that's better than the Subaru ones, at least for the '04 STi... Dean and Matt probably remember the details. Also, don't forget that the bearings come packed in shipping grease only, so they need to be lubed up with some proper grease before going into the car! |

Boo you have PM.

That's the thread... So far, I am very happy with the "Nissan" bearings... Possibly overkill for the street though.

Thank you guys... "Totally" Appreciate this...
