Ultimate Frisbee

I know Tyson is a Disc Golfer, but there is an article in Today's RGJ's Neighborhoods section about a local Ultimate league.

I haven't played since college, but was thinking about checking it out...

They play each Tuesday through Oct. 21 at 6:30Pm at at Idlewild...

Anybody else interested?

<slight derail>

I helped build the first 9 holes of 18 at Rancho 2 weekends ago...it's pretty cool!

Heh, I've been playing with that group since....oh.....circa 2001. I sacrificed one knee already, and I was playing again this season, but it started feeling wobbly again, so I stopped.

I set up the original Yahoo group for them, I think I'm still the owner.

Dean 2008-10-08 05:56 PM

So, you are saying it is a pretty good group since it has you in it? :)

I don't expect to play, but any interest in going out to watch or hang out next Tues?

ScottyS 2008-10-08 05:59 PM

Well, part of the long-term core set involves several players from Donner Party, who won Worlds 3 years in a row.

The whole thing is pretty big now, with a serious cross-section of experience.

Dean 2008-10-08 06:09 PM

Not sure what you are saying...

Are you saying they are all ultra serious, or that there are a bunch of different experience levels and all are welcome?

Or, are you saying old farts who haven't played for 20 years aren't allowed to even watch???

No, no, everyone can play pickup on Saturdays, and you will see old farts playing League nights too....

I love ultimate frisbee.

JonnydaJibba 2008-10-09 09:08 AM

They have leagues?

I thought the game of frisbee was invented for lazy stoners...

UF is like soccer with your hands. It whoops your ass if you're lazy like me.

JonnydaJibba 2008-10-09 09:48 AM

That's what I'm saying. I'm a fan of not running when I don't have to.

Hey now, do I look like a lazy college stoner?

Dean 2008-10-09 12:32 PM

Come on... Everyone knows "lazy college stoners" grow up to be bowlers having never played Ultimate...

ScottyS 2008-10-09 01:38 PM

If you don't own a Discraft Ultrastar 175g, you are nobody. I mean, a bowler-in-training.

Now wait a minute... Some of us old folk can't lift that much disc and have to use vintage 165g masters. :)

Ack, you need to order from Wrightlife.com, stat.

Dean 2008-10-09 01:56 PM

OK, OK, but what color? White is classic, Glow in the Dark is cool if you are 12, but there are soooo many others... :)

ScottyS 2008-10-09 02:28 PM

Well, I prefer the white, green, and bright red. We could get them with the SECCS logo if we ordered enough, lol.

Dean 2008-10-09 02:39 PM

I like the red. Reminds me of my old WRX. Any chance they are available locally? No go at ToysRUs...

ScottyS 2008-10-09 02:55 PM

You are approved....

No, they are not in any stores that I have seen. I need to order a couple more as it is, how many do you want?

Dean 2008-10-09 03:05 PM

So, you are still the admin... hahahahaha Glad I didn't say anything bad about you... ;)

I have 8 other discs I don't use. 1 red one should be fine if you are ordering some. I should order some Golf ones as well so Tyson doesn't laugh at me if we ever play, but wouldn't know what to buy. Maybe next year...

Yeah, I have only one golf disc, the rest of the time I play with an Ultrastar, just cause I know how it flies. Not that I play much golf.

tysonK 2008-10-09 03:59 PM

I think I have a ultrastarr, discraft makes good disc golf ones as well.

Innova makes the best golf discs.

ScottyS 2008-10-09 04:12 PM

Dean, you want the Innova Golf Starter box? $23.99
