AT&T/GSM Phone choices???

My folks finally want to come into the '90s :) and get cell phones which means it is my opportunity to switch to AT&T and get a "Family" plan for us all.

Anybody have parents using the Pantech Breeze? No jokes about my being old and needing the bigger buttons, etc...

I can't justify the ongoing costs for the iPhone right now, so for me, it looks like a choice between the

LG Shine or
Sony/Ericsson Z750A

Anybody have/tried one of those?

I think I am leaning toward the Sony.

my mom loved my sister's iphone when she used it.

can't you cancel the data plan now..?

Dean that's great. I am really happy for you. I would have never thought your parents were still alive.

That is not funny juice on a couple levels.

Nope, can't get rid of the data plan on the iPhone... basically $70/mo. is the absolute minimum.

jitterbug
Edit: Sorry Dean, didn't notice the NO old jokes thing

As an aside Dean, I have a Samsung i607 Blackjack that was on the ATT plan, it was replaced under warranty so the phone itself is new, in the meantime I went with a different (less complicated) phone.

Don't know if you would be interested but I'd sell it cheap. I have all the cables - car, wall, USB - as well as extra/extended batteries, charging holder, and leather belt holster.

All it needs is a 3G ATT SIM card.

I suggest going with the Sony. The shine is just a shiny piece of crap IMO. From my experience it drops calls a lot. It also doesn't have service often when I have service. Hope that helps.

Nina's got a Pantech Duo, which has been good so far.

Ha.... :P

Actually, looked at those for the parents. They are really pretty well designed for their demographic, but they are CDMA and not even available on Verizon or Sprint, but some hack company with crappy plans + $150 for the phone.

The Pantech Breeze is AT&T's not quite as good of an attempt.

The Duo is a little bigger than I was looking for and not 3G.

Well if it's really about ongoing costs then get an iphone and then cancel the contract and keep the iphone but use whatever plan you want...:)

$199(iphone)+$175(early term)+$35 (other fees)

you should be able to to get below $50 ongoing costs after that.

I should get an iphone.:P

Ah, turns out it was a Pantech Matrix. Nevermind.

iPhones are overrated.

So dean does this means you don't want/need my samsung?
