Need Help or Advice

OK I have read about smog restrictions here in Reno and let me say you all are lucky. Ok so heres my dilemma.

i was back in California this weekend to visit family. With my luck i got pulled over by CHP and they did the whole open your hood and pray i dont know what im looking at... Well, i got written up for my Injen CAI which isn't CARB legal, i dont know if he noticed i had a catless DP since he didnt really say anything. Either way he gave me a ticket and now i have to get signed off by a CA State Ref. I have a couple of questions.

1. I got pulled over for my intake about 8 months ago. (i put on my stock intake took it to ref and got signed off.) And heres the dumbest part the ticket is non fixable which means i had to automatically pay like a $270 fine, and the stupidest part of all the Judge didnt even look at my smog papers so for all they know i didnt smog my car.

question1: Is anyone free to help me take off and then put back on my DP, should i go that route? i dont really want to pay $100 to take it shop.

question2: Should i try and pull a fast one so i wont have to pay for my ticket. The officer asked my what i did to the car i only said intake and exhaust(i didnt specify TBE non-catless). I can do the whole DP switch so that way i can pass a smog test, but then also throw on a SPT intake which is CARB legal, and then go to court and tell the judge that the officer didnt know what he was looking at and that he falsely gave me the ticket (then show her my prof of passing smog and having a CARB legal intake) and hope the judge throws it out.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what i can do? or is anyone free and willing to spare some time to help me out. I know i am new to this forum, so not a lot of you know me, but any feeback or help would be much appreciated. I have all my stock parts ready to go. Thanks. I guess this is what everybody means by you gotta pay to play, well crap they got me twice... hahaha

I think this Saturday I may be working on an Evo all day in Sparks, removing mods. You could come and join us and I'll show you how to/help you swap your exhaust to stock. As for the legal questions, I have no idea. There'd be more input on that subject on i-club.

Hey Cody thanks for the invite. I am actrually going back to the bay area this coming weekend as well to coach basketball. I have 60 days to do it, so im not totally pressed for time although i do want to get it taken care of. If are doing any more work on cars during the week or any other time i would love to learn. I want to do this myself and im sure its probably not all that hard, but working with someone that has done it before makes things go a lot easier and smoother. Thanks for the the invite and info.

Officer may be present, and likely took notes based on what you said. Judge will believe officer over you, and perjury is not a good idea.

Fix it right and pay the ticket.

Weekends tend to be best for me. Shoot me a PM if you get one free. And the DP is really easy. You might want to order new gaskets to prevent leaks.

No, i agree purjury is no bueno. The only thing is the cop didnt specifically tell me what he found that was illegal. So i have no clue on why he gave me the ticket, i only know that he "could" have given it to me for the intake since i have been written up for it before, but for all i know he thought my car wasnt supposed to have a TMIC or that i modifed the intake manifold since its red. All i told the cop was that i had a modified intake (if i switch to the SPT its still considered modifed), and a modified exhaust didnt specify TBE with catless DP (a cat back exhaust isnt illegal in CA, plus i even have the silencer to be within sound restrictions.) But, yes i do agree that i should not lie. Thanks for the input.

I can help you out too. When do you want to do it? Also, why did the cop pull you over? I assume that he should have told you why you got the ticket not just "um yeah well... here you go.". It doesn't say it on the ticket anywhere?

moose 2009-02-02 06:50 PM

I would also be able anytime after 2:30pm.

Cool thanks. i got pulled over at 1030pm driving to my sisters house. All it says on the ticket is modified emissions (no detail as to what was illegal). The last cop that pulled me over at least told me that it was for the intake and said "its because it doesnt have a CARB EO number" so i was like ok. But yeah the cop didnt tell me what/why he was citing me for that, i just assume it was becasue i said i had a modified intake and exhaust (since i couldnt lie and say my injen wrinkle red CAI was stock.) hehe. I have to plan out when im going to the bay area again and can set up an appointment with the ref. Oh, i have the scoop so whenever you want it just let me know.

moose: thanks for the help. I'll PM everyone thats willing to help and whoever can make it great.
