Turbocharger Oil Supply Mesh Screen. O Rly?

I was just looking at turbos online and came across this article that talks about a small pre-turbo oil filter that I have never heard of. Have any of you removed or cleaned this before?

http://store.forcedperformance.net/m...Info_SubaruOil

The PDF file says this article is applicable to all turbo models while the .gif file says it applies to 2.5l engines.

I found the AVCS filters tearing down my blocks. Will have to go in search of that one. I don't think I pulled that fitting off either head.

I was wondering if this is something I need to be concerned about. :?:

Edit: The PDF at the bottom of the page you linked says, "APPLICABILITY: All Turbo Equipped Vehicles".

How hard is it to get to the banjo bolt? Should I check it during an oil change to avoid getting oil everywhere?

Should be easily accessible from the passenger side. Right on the back of the head, under the turbo.

It appears to be where the hard line going to the top of the turbo comes out of the head. I don't think anything is in the way, but all my blocks are out of the car stripped down.

It can't be that hard to get to since it talks about cleaning with oil changes. I just can't figure out why this is the first time I am seeing anything about this.

How long have you been running a large sized needle bearing turbo?

My point is just that this is probably way blown out of context for cars with stock turbos. On an fpgreen you might want to worry. But on a stock turbo, you probably shouldn't lose sleep over it.

That said, I don't actually remember if my screen is in there or not on my fpgreen. I know it was in there at one point because I remember seeing it in the past, but I can't remember if it was reinstalled by GST when they put in the green because I can't specifically recall it one way or the other the last time I had the turbo off. I guess I'm going to have to pull it apart before tuning the motor!

There's a lot of early turbo Legacies running around with stock turbos over 200k......

Oh yeah I totally agree. Like Scott said, the main thrust of the article is directed to people who have spent a lot of money on after market turbos. Hence how I found the article on Forced Performance.com while I was looking for a new turbo. I posted it because I am thinking about upgrading to a bigger turbo in the future and I know that a lot of you here already have so I thought the information was pertinent.
