AP V2 question

Anybody with a V2 AP.

What changes on the AP so you can tell it is installed on uninstalled, and can you tell when not plugged into a car?

I am looking at a used V2 AP and want to be able to make sure it has been uninstalled/unmarried without a car since my car is out of commission.

I had the same question when I sold my version 1 AP. I called cobb, they told me straight away. Give them a call or send them an email.

Posted something on their forums already. Just thought I might get a faster response here. So far, no answer. :(

V1 goes into must marry to ECU mode and won't display any other options on power up. I know that, so figure something similar might happen to V2, but "installation" video shows what appears to be a "normal" menu...

I would guess that if it was married to another car that it wouldn't let you install it on your car.

Well, When I switch a map, I generally double check by going to the current map config screen or something and it says what map is currently active by name. This is when it's plugged into the car. I haven't played with it in so long that I can't remember but I can check later.

Dean 2009-02-20 04:44 PM

Again, the objective would be to be able to tell without plugging into a car...

cody 2009-02-20 04:59 PM

Have you tried plugging it into the car?

100_Percent_Juice 2009-02-20 05:02 PM

Plug it into someone else's car. You should have though about that before the meet last night.

Dean 2009-02-20 05:09 PM

OMG... I am looking at buying a used one, though it may be gone, and neither the seller, nor I have a working Subaru...

cody 2009-02-20 05:10 PM

 Sorry Dean.

Dean 2009-02-20 06:47 PM

Well, doesn't matter... It's gone... If somebody got a V2 AP for an STI for $300 from a guy named Riley in Sparks, I hate you! :)

100_Percent_Juice 2009-02-20 06:56 PM

That's dirt ass cheap!

100_Percent_Juice 2009-02-20 06:57 PM

Even if it were married you could have sent it in to COBB and still saved money!

Wait, the guy was local and you didn't just drive over and plug it in..

How does that work? They just charge you a fee to unmarry it? How much?

100_Percent_Juice 2009-02-23 11:30 AM

I can't remember the exact price but it has come up several times on nasioc when someone totals out their car and is selling their married AP.

I think they charge like 2/3 the price of a new one, because essentially, if someone's already tuned a car then sells the AP still married, the next owner is getting a reflash while the previous owner never gave theirs up.

100_Percent_Juice 2009-02-23 12:07 PM

Yeah but, I think the first person in your scenario would then be screwed because now his ecu is locked and that map will always be on there.

Screwed how? Screwed by having a custom reflash on his car that makes it go faster?

He's only screwed if he wants to add/remove mods and it needs retuning. If he's "done" with modding the car then selling the married AP gets him a couple hundred bucks in his pocket w/o giving up his tune.

100_Percent_Juice 2009-02-23 12:17 PM

^If someone was going to do that wouldn't it be cheaper to just get tuned with open source if he doesn't plan on ever switching maps?
