At least they're brand new, still have the nubs, and they'll last for a winter.

I just needed something with M+S on the side to get me through controls down here anyways. When I roll up the hill, the way MY car handles the snow is the least of my worries; it's the flatlanders in SUV's that worry me ;)

Nothing like seeing an H2 doing 60 in the snow... someone needs to put up signs... "Just because it has 4WD, doesn't mean it can STOP any better." and "Remember, your SUV weighs 6000 lbs. Please plan your stopping and turning manuvers well in advanced."

I go 30mph TOPS over the pass in snow. Sure I could go faster, but I want make sure I have plenty of time to go around the spinned out SUVs. :roll:

I get the other kind of flatlanders, I live in Apple Hill, and I need heavy weaponry and a pushbar just to get to the freeway from my house in the fall.

It's fun to watch the ponderous spins of doom at liek 10mph when the idiots in trucks try to stand on their brakes, when all they'd have to do is gas it a little bit. :)

Well its always great, driving to/from Tahoe seeing at least one flatlander SUV in a bank on the side of the road, while I'm able to cruise by at the speeds that probably put them in the ditch.

Hey, people get stuck.. it happens.. i ended up in a snowbank last year and im a very experienced snow driver (4-wheeling in the snow is a fav past time around here up around around the canyons). It took an F350 Powerstroke with chains on all 4 tires to pull me out of the snowbank, after 4 hours of waiting in - temp weather in my jeans and jacket. A flatlander I am not.

True true. I've been stuck my fair share of times too (sybir has had to pull me out of mud more then once). And I'd prefer the overly cautious to the uncautious.

But I know some people who expect their car to go everywhere (despite driver ability), and are very disappointed when they find it cannot the hard way. I do try and help out when I can, but it still brings a smile to my face supposedly snow-going vehicles in a bank.

We've all gotten stuck. I meant no disrespect. The same way the people who live up here can justify SUV's as a normal choice, but H2's in the Bay Area piss me off, y'know?

I've been known to get overzealous in the snow, but I know better, and I'm screwing around. I'm not assuming my 6000 pound body on frame lifted station wagon is unstoppable, can start, stop, and turn on a dime on black ice or in R2 conditions :)

When a run to Tahoe, even in the snow, would take me an hour, but it takes 3 because some muppet in a Suburban blocks the road after spinning sideways at chain control, and has Livermore Chevy plates ;)

It just irritates me b/c so many (like at least 3/4) of the people here have the big SUV for no other reason than just having the big SUV. Yeah, my wife and I have a Jeep Cherokee, but it's an 87 Laredo that I inherited from my parents in college and at least we go up to the mountains & snow every year in it. We're even looking to buy a V8 Grand Cherokee soon too, but it'll be a used one (all we can afford), and we're only going to get it because I need a tow vehicle with enough torque to pull my Mustang on a trailer. At least we use ours, and aren't in it for the bling factor.

Exactly. You need it to tow, or you need it regularly enough that it makes sense. You probably don't drive it every day, either.

In the neighborhood I used to live in ,there were a few families with 2 kids of driving age, and there'd be 4 SUV's in the driveway. C'mon now :)

Actually my wife drives the Jeep every day because that's our most reliable vehicle and she has to commute from here to Concord for grad school... plus the Mustang is getting to be less and less daily driving-friendly. :lol:

Unfortunately we're going to own nothing but gas-guzzlers pretty soon, :roll: all because I can't live without having a fast racecar... my wallet feels lighter already.

Um, I don't know if the Jeep qualifies as a gas guzzler... doesn't the H2 get like 9mpg? :lol:

Well I suppose it's all relative... compared to the H2 and its ilk, our cars get great mileage. Compared to smaller cars that get 30+mpg... not so much. 15mpg around town (for the Cherokee) isn't fantastic IMO.

Think of it this way:

Assume you and I both fill up once a month, and have the same size 10 gallon gas tank. My new car get's say 25mpg, your old one gets 15mpg. That means I can drive an extra 100 miles each month, and all for the low cost of a $500/mo car payment. :lol:

:lol: Well don't worry, it's not like I'm thinking about ditching the Jeep for a newer car just to save gas... I guess I'm gonna have that thing for years to come cause those 4.0L engines run forever.

Well, I put my new Dunlop Winter Sport M2's on last night, I can't believe I have 225 45- 17 snow tires :lol: , such overkill. Anyway, the car drives so smooth on these new tires, and the road noise is not bad at all, I was afraid that that huge footprint on a snow tire would be deafening, but its not. The sidewalls don't flex as much as the 16's from last season, so I think they are a good fit on the STi, they would probably work good on the EVO too sergio...

I can't believe how much lighter my stockers are than the P1's.... I was pulling out of a parking lot into traffic, so I blipped the throttle and let the clutch out halfway pretty quickly like I would normally to get moving quickly. Instead of going, the inside front tire just screamed in protest as I spun it... finally everything hooked up and the car bolted down the road.

I'm also having to get used to the lack of steering feedback on those things...

Skinny, light wheels with low traction is much different than the wide, heavy, sticky tires I'm used to running around on!

I feel like I'm driving on a cushy little cloud now.

My car is almost silent compaired to the kumho's.
