Sorry, most are of my car...But there are some good shots. My buddy Ian can take the credit for these.

First, Matt and Silvio both demonstrating the proper late-late apex at the finish.

Feel free to post any additional Hawthorne pics or videos. Ian shot a video of my car through the finish sections, but I didn't post it because the guy that drives the Saabaru is talking over the whole thing about what a crappy driver I am, so it kind of takes away from watching the car go through.

No pics of my beast, shit.

Holy shit, Cory, I was wondering where the fire-breathing awesome-mobile sticker was, I couldn't find it in my garage.:lol:

Matt tagged me up with it on Saturday, between runs without my knowledge! I'm so proud!

Cory has the best sticker package on any of the cars out there..

although your window banner is a lil weak :P

AtomicLabMonkey 2009-05-26 09:44 AM

Cory - how do you like your steering quick release? I haven't used that style before.

It's pretty sweet. Nice and solid, (no wobbling or play) and easy to use. The best part is how thin it is. It's about 1.5" tops installed. Scott got the same one for the WRX after getting to use mine.

I like it too... it was much cheaper than the super expensive Sparco rally ones, and uses some hefty pins to locate and lock the wheel in position instead of a spline-type junction. Plus I can't imagine ever being able to accidentally knock the wheel loose because you have to activate a lever on both sides of the release at the same time for it to come off.

That's mainly what I was wondering about. The splined units can get quite a bit of play as they wear..

What manufacturer?

A1337STI 2009-05-26 02:26 PM

I think i have a similar removable steering wheel style as Cory, he gave me his contact to order all the needed stuff for my rally car. Mine has a button i have to press to pull the holding ring though. (which is good as that's a nasa 09 rally requirement) No play in mine yet , and it suffers a lot of harsh vibrations...

Hey Matt, You should link that video anyways, (or pm me a link) I'm wondering if the Saabaru guy you speak of, is my buddy Nick who came down with me (and also had a Tahoemotorsports) banner on his car. ? Sucks someone talked shit about your driving over your video. I'll be kind of surprised if it was nick, but if it is i want to to rag on him for it (and point out how many places higher you are than he is in PAX) ... hehe

the proper way to ruin someone's autoX is to force them to pick up cones.. like if you are the Only one that makes them pick up cones... :)

cody 2009-05-26 02:53 PM

Anyone have an ETA for results? I'm F5'ing my life away here. :P

Amusingly enough, "Snap-Off Industries" Even a couple years in, there's no play at all in the QR. I'm definitely long-term pleased with it!

cody 2009-05-26 03:12 PM

That's like Gimick Motorsports. What were they thinking naming there company that??

Yeah, it was Nick...It's hard to make out everything but it says something like "blah..blah,,,this guy jerks the wheel around too much...spun out...choppy...blah..blahh.." It's really no big deal, different courses and surfaces require different input, I may not have been super-smooth through that section...But I was still pretty fast...so I guess I'm good. I'm not really sensative about it, I just wish it wasn't over the ONLY video of my car I've been able to capture in like 2 years.

Tell that Nick guy he's full of shit. Being smooth does not necessarily correlate 1-to-1 with being slow on the steering wheel... autocross requires way more input over time than rally or road-race... you can in fact be extremely busy on the wheel and still be smooth, it all boils down to how much your inputs are upsetting the grip of the car. Just take a look at the lap times to figure out who's doing it better.

I spun out twice there Saturday because I was carrying too much speed, Sunday, all gravy.
