rear end noise

i have a noise in my rear left side from 1-22mph noise is a clunking and sucks to be pulling into meets and have everyone hear it..oh yeah im a noob to the site

zpeed 2009-05-31 04:51 PM

Is it smell?

03wrxwagon 2009-05-31 04:56 PM

no smell..i check my shafts, endlinks, have not check wheel bearings also read forum about someones strut was making noise

sperry 2009-05-31 08:13 PM

My 1st guess is endlinks... you make not be able to tell they're worn just by looking at them w/o taking them off the bar since they may be pre-loaded enough when the car's static to hide play.

Rear struts are notorious for making clunking noise, but that's usually on the STis. Then again, if you've got more than 60k miles on the struts, they could be dead already.

i just dont get why those would be making a clunking noise when moving at that speed

szucchet 2009-06-01 07:06 AM

my rear struts clunk an slow speeds or maybe they clunk all the time I just only hear it when am going slow. Can you point is the noise is coming from the top area of your trunk or the lower area?

Because they do and road noise is not high enough to drown them out.

No, it is a known issue with the cars and a common complaint. I believe we had someone else in the club with the issue in the past couple months, and many of us have had it. :P

A quick way to check is to remove the endlinks and take a spin around the block.

03wrxwagon 2009-06-01 06:02 PM

leave the endlinks off or what for that spin around the block

Kevin M 2009-06-01 06:47 PM

Yep. Can't really drive around with no struts, but the endlinks are purely optional.

03wrxwagon 2009-06-01 06:51 PM

ok ill try that out

sperry 2009-06-02 01:29 PM

Don't forget to zip-tie the sway bar up and out of the way of the control arms just to be sure you don't catch it on anything and bend the snot out of it or a lateral link.

I was thinking the same thing.
