God Bless ESL

Without second language english speakers, we just wouldn't get gems like this in our email:

If I missed to send an email to unfreezed, I apologize for your incontinence. Please have fun to check in all changes; however, please ensure it is built and tested.
So apparently, the source control branch isn't frozen anymore, and I can stop pooping myself over it.

When I saw this thread, I knew was almost certain it was going to be about that e-mail.

Please have fun!

Oh, I get some good one's too! But that is a classic. Nice job on decoding it. This is how I feel whenever I get a PM from MikeK.

MikeK 2010-05-26 09:56 AM

Is all y'alls saying I don't talk good anyways?

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go eat some mayonnaise sandwiches.

If this is from inside your company, rather than a Nigerian entrepreneur, God help you.

Your translation is elegant.

I think we need one of these posted daily!

Kevin M 2010-05-26 11:52 AM

Actually in my experiences, Nigerian princes/banking mogul heirs have fairly decent grammar.

Actually, the person that posted it is a decent engineer, but her English is pretty bad. I don't think she ever learned how to conjugate a verb. And while I'll rip all day long on people's online grammar/spelling, ESL folks get a pass from me. It's not like I could do better writing in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, or Australian.

No pants, to boot.

Dude, Chinese Engineer is a completely different language. I speak it fluently but don't have a chance with traditional Chinese. We get gems like "please enjoy the triple test" - it's like having your own internal meme source.

And what Scott said - I'd be way worse speaking their language and appreciate the efforts, it's just great material sometimes. The names are even better - we have a Stone and Licky Wang, Rambo Dong, Rainbow Ho.....

Not that I'm one to talk about weird names

'Rambo Dong' is awesome. My favorite that I've seen working here, is 'Golden Wang'.

Its not apples to apples until You're going over to their countries taking jobs with in their economy and not speaking the local language correctly!

/Pro America Rant :)

Um, the people I give a spelling/grammar pass to online aren't always ESL people working in America. If some dude in Tokyo screws up their/there/they're, he gets a pass.

You on the other hand need to learn the difference between "with in" and "within". :P

sybir 2010-05-28 01:08 PM

We don't need ESL people to amuse us with goofy engrish online, we have Alex.

Who *does* delivery us great Gems of amusement.
