Faulty Rear Diff
So I took my car into Carson subaru for 2 things. The front passenger side door lock broke some how, which they fixed really fast. The next thing was this noise I keep hearing going above 50-60 mph...a loud whirring noise. The guy said that he thinks that it is the rear-diffmaking the noise and not to worry unless it makes the noise constantly. Well, to make matters worse, the winds were about 60 mph up there, so he didn't get to hear that the sound is making noise ALL the time. I am confused and worried since I will be making some big trips soon. Any advice?

With your loud whirring noise, do you also feel any vibration?
I had a road trip to Pahrump this past weekend, and noticed a noise but no vibration. Checked everything I could check, and chalked it up to tires on the pavement. I wasn't at 50-60 very often though, was cruising at 85 most of the way. |
No vibration. Just when driving. The most common time I hear it is going down-hill when I left of the accelerator. It then becomes louder as I begin to apply the brakes. I is annoying, loud, and pretty frightening. It is still in Carson at the shop. Hopefully they have fixed it or know exactly whats wrong by now.
