STOP master brake cylinder talk
Quick Question, Is there really a difference between the master cylinder for an automatic impreza and a manual impreza?
My cylinder is going out (had a few scary moments on stage) http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/rafr...&parttype=1836 I Tried to order the $51.79 Part (MT non-ABS) specific one but it got back ordered basically indefinitely :( And none of the other ones seems to be quite right for my car, Except the Centric for $159 I would think that the 73.79 one is good,w/Power Brakes; Bore = 13/16"; w/o ABS but it says for Automatic transmission .. I don't recall ever seeing a brake line go to or from the transmission, so is the master cylinder really transmission specific? (it doesn't mount to the transmission) I'm confused. :?: an extra $70 to have brakes on stage is well worth it, but am i just throwing money away buying the $159 version over the 73.79 ? |
140 for a remanufactured napa one , or $220 for napa new ...
I don't really want a remanufactured one though |
Basically, you just need to make sure it has the right brake line ports in the right place. There might be piston diameter differences as well, but it won't make it not work and may even help.
It's common for the piston diameter or booster design to change from manual to automatic, and for the lines coming from the MC to differ in position or number, especially from ABS to non-ABS. Oh, and reman is fine. Generally it just means honing the cylinder and replacing the piston with the next size up, just like engine pistons. If it saves money, don't be afraid of reman parts. |
Cool beans, i won't risk getting the Automatic one (really need this part before Gorman)
Generally I'm pick and pull, used part, reman part whore. but when it comes to my brakes (or safety products) I've always gone new. so think my options are 140 for napa reman or 154 for rockauto (new) ? i'll probably pony up the extra 14 |
Can you rebuild yours? I know that goes against your understandably cautious policy regarding safety parts on your car, but I think it's something people do when they're on a budget?
