Accesport on a 2.2 wrx

Hey guys, I did some research and couldn't find anything so I hope this isn't a question that shows my noobness. I just wanted to try and be sure before I bought anything. I am planning on buying an accesport in the near future instead of just doing open source tunes. I was just wondering if anyone knew or could think of any problems that may happen with a 2 liter stroked to 2.2. I'm assuming that my ecu should match up with the standard accessport for my car because it's communicating with the ecu which would be unchanged. I just wanted to try and be sure what I am getting into before I put the money down. Thanks for the help.

AP will be fine with stroked block as long as you get a custom tune to go with it.

I have an accesport V2 for 02-05 WRX that I can sell if you are interested.

Why not just skip the accessport and have KSpeed do a custom tune?

An Accessport and a custom tune are not mutually exclusive. In fact, with a stroked motor, he's
going to need a custom tune regardless of the tuning method.

Yes, so why bother paying extra $$ for an accessport when you will have to do a custom tune anyway...?

Easier map switching? Ability to pull codes? The gauge functionality? Possibly better or cheaper tuning since AP is tons easier to tune?

There's a reason Cobb is still selling tons of APs even though open source tuning is a reality. I'm not sure I'd bother with an AP myself, but I'm a "computer guy". Lots of people don't want use a laptop and non-trivial unsupported free software to keep their car running. I guess it's kinda like asking "why do you drive a new Camry, don't you know you could buy a 90's Lexus and do a motor swap and have a faster car that's just as nice for way cheaper?"

KSpeed is cool with AccessPort customers, Matt can provide custom tunes for them. But he doesn't see any advantage to him personally by selling you one or tuning one you bought. If you don't already have one, there's no advantage to buying one if you need a custom tune anyway. The big advantage to the AP is plug-and-play capability for most people who don't have easy access to a good tuner.

<-- has a 2004 FXT with VF39 and stage 2 and no AP, just a solid KSpeed tune. In fact, my car had an AP when I bought it, and I sold it since it provides me with no real world advantages.

Thanks for the offer, I think I'm going to hold off on buying one for now. Thanks for all the help guys. Sperry, what software are you using? Just curious, trying to figure out all the options, the best of which sounds like just doing an open source for my budget right now and saving the money. :)

I have a Hydra standalone ECU. But I'm using the stock '02 ecu with RomRaider for my break-in map. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to switch back to the Hydra or stick with the open source tune when my motor is ready to be tuned.
