CEL + Flashing Cruise Cleared Itself?

I have a perplexing problem that I don't even know where to start on.

Yesterday, while cruising along in 5th gear, my car hiccuped and the CEL and cruise control light was flashing. I coasted to somewhere safe and, while I was coasting, the engine was revving itself to ~2500 RPM. I wasn't leaking anything and decided to try to start it again. It started without any issues and I was able to get to my destination without any other issues with the CEL/cruise lights on.

I also drove home with the lights on without any issues. 10 minutes after arriving home, I went and started my car again. The strange thing was that the CEL cleared itself. I drove to work without issues either.

Why would a CEL that would cause the Cruise control light to illuminate clear itself? Does this sound like a common issue like a misfire or bad gas?

It could be a temporary issue. The code will still be available, even though the CEL has cleared itself. If you get an OBDII scanner you can read/clear it.

It could be a number of things, from bad gas to a failing O2 sensor, etc. Some codes could be harmless, some could actually mean something needs to get fixed in the near future.

The good(-ish) news, though, is that the car is clearing the CEL because this is not a consistent problem right now.

The friendly gentlemen at KSpeed were nice enough to take a look at it earlier today.

The code thrown is P0607 for Control Module Performance. This may be related to a malfunctioning ECU or related sensor. I mentioned that the car was seeming to hunt for idle when the CEL went on and I took it out of gear. Matt said that that was a possible symptom of a bad throttle position sensor.

Has anyone else ever gotten this code before?

sounds like one of you main harnesses isn't connected all the way something along those lines, buddy of mine had that happen to him, would only let him rev to 2500, kind of like a limp mode

Hey Jake, glad to hear your problem didn't leave you stuck anywhere. I didn't get your message until late last night and totally spaced calling you back today. :( Sorry 'bout that!

I don't know that you'd have a loose connection in the main harness, since your car is basically unmolested. Those harnesses don't just come loose on their own. But a specific sensor failing might be the culprit. I thought there was a specific code for TPS issues though, so getting a general error like you got seems odd if it's the TPS. If it's intermittent, really all you can do is wait for it to happen again and hope you can notice a pattern to how you were driving or something when it occured.

It all good. I apologize for the shitty message as my mind was going ~500 mph thinking about what it could be and what it would cost me.

You're right about the separate code for the TPS. I'm thinking more and more that it's a malfunctioning ECU but it hasn't happened since the other night so I'm hoping it was just a hiccup more than anything else.
