How experienced is he welding at cast iron? This needs to be done right the first time or I'm fucked. I'm thinking I'd better just tap it a size bigger and plug it with a bolt.

Yah, it seems like if you had to heat the pipe to 500, you could just do so with a blow torch. It's on the wrong side so if it can be welded, I just want it welded shut.
