Its not that they think that coming from the TV has better sound quality, but the recording is a better quality. The Guitar Hero track is uncompressed compared to the CD version.
The recording industry makes specific mixes/release constantly for radio that are different from the album versions. There are Torrents full of them.
The "Death Magnetic" tracks on the album are significantly compressed, possibly as bad as the radio edits.
Do you honestly believe mistakes don't make it to production in the audio industry and that they might make a financial decision over a audiophile one?
Of course mistakes happen, but this is a recurring issue with Metallica, and a few other bands. I'm not sure what the financial benifit of compressing the tracks on the CD is. Torrents are available of higher quality mixes, but if you actually go out and purchase the CD you are screwed.
