Lately, I have been hearing that people are paying WAYYYYYYYY to much for their STI's. (Not necessarily in this case). Are people not doing their homework on KBB.COM or other like sites?
When I first shopped for my WRX, Summer of 2003, the Reno dealer salesdroid said they would not go a dime under the price on the window, which included about $3,000.00 in dealer markup. I laughed, realized I didn't really "need" the car at the time and left. I didn't want to pursue it at that time.
I have taught car buying in a Consumer math class and have learned a great deal about all the inner workings of car sales. (It appears that many members here know of all of this stuff).
When I bought mine, i paid invoice plus about $100.00, and they took my trade in and gave me what I wanted for it. (I didn't want to sell it locally or to a friend, ask me why in person if you want the details).
I called, asked for the sales manager, stated what I wanted and what I wanted to pay for it, secured the deal, payed cash (had my own financing), then mentioned trade in and drove the car home.
I understand the some people may want the 2005 model "TODAY" and thus may have to pay a premium to get it. For my money, I would wait until the price dropped to near invoice, like they always seem to do on Subarus.
Sorry if I got off on a tangent here.
