What Sam's thread spun off made me think about my first car. At least the first car I bought myself.
When I turned 16, I drove the family 72 Ford Galaxie. It always smelled like something was burning in the engine. I was always paranoid that something was going to happen to it before I got back home. Especially the times I snuck off to San Francisco with the car....
When I turned 19, the first car I bought myself was a 76 Ford Mustang Cobra II, white with blue stripes. I think I paid $2,700 for it. An airman shipped out overseas and had to leave it. It had racing harnesses, spoilers, rear window louvres, and a whopping 139 hp. Little did I know what I had then, but I did have alot of fun racing it up Hwy 50 to Tahoe. It met an untimely death in the parking lot at Harvey's Lake Tahoe when the engine caught fire.
