I never realized the actual design plays a part in the lag characteristics. I thought the biggest factor in the lag was simply the volume of the IC. Basically a big IC needs a big turbo, or you'd have to wait for the little turbo to presurize it. Esp. the FMIC's since you have to push all that air along the pipes to and from the IC. I figured bar/plate vs tube/fin would simply change the effectiveness of the cooling, and not have much of an effect on flow. Interesting stuff!
