Well, Marcus didn't slow down and ended up not finishing because he pushed too hard. What he should have done was just try to drive a clean and fast rally and wait for Solberg to make a mistake... instead he was the one that was disabled on the road with an angry Subaru driver behind him honking his horn.
Gronholm could have had an easy 2nd place, and a possible win if he hadn't gotten greedy and tried to out drive Solby. And his boss finally called him on it.
So anyway, by slowing down and driving a conservative race, Mitsu got 8 points and is tied for 2nd only 2 points behind Ford. After their last few years, I think Mitsubishi is doing the right think driving conservatively looking at the big season-long picture. They need to finish top 3 in manufacturer points, and winning outright isn't actually necessary... being consistant and finishing every event is.
