Without restrictions, F1 would be a bunch for computer controlled robot slot cars going 300 mph with eight-wheel-drive, traction control, ABS, and vacuum suction downforce.
You forget that the point of F1 is not just to be the world's fastest road-course cars. The point of F1 is the
driver's championship. An "open" series that doesn't limit technology results in a series that doesn't allow drivers to drive.
