You handled the situation IMHO the "right" way, drilling into a block or a head is not really a good idea unless it is a controlled environment, who knows if there is a water passag 1/64" past the end of the current bolt hole. Always scared me doing that type of stuff.

We wouln't have been going any deeper into the block... just opening up the hole so we could re-tap it for a larger bolt.
