I drive through that everyday, but I go north on 395. Many times drivers would be in the right line merging on to southbound 395, then realize that the left lane also goes southbound (until you have to merge back to one lane 30 feet later anyway

.) Since the right lane is usually at a dead stop during rush hour and the left lane mostly empty (with faster moving traffic), people just move over to the left to try and get 10 cars further up. In the process they usually cut right in front of cars staying left to 395N, causing them to slam on the brakes. So I for one am glad for the change, since now cars at a dead stop aren't moving left in front of cars going 55-65 mph.
