The best way to make people know your joking is to be funny to begin with.
Asking for compensation because I'm helping them out by not claiming this through the insurance is perfectly acceptable, IMO. They can pay me the $50 to take care of this myself, or they can pay whatever the cost of their raised insurance premiums will be for the next 3 years. I think that's probably more like $50/month
at least.
And since they didn't bother to get in touch with me on Friday, the $50 is probably a moot point. I'm calling them Monday and if they're not ready to go, the car gets repaired via insurance.
