McDonalds was brewing their coffee at ridiculously high temperatures because they could get a few more cups out of a bag of grounds. They even had internal memos about the coffee being too hot to be safe to drink, and intentionally ignored them to make a few extra bucks. The lady that sued them, sued *only* for her medical costs, it was the jury that awarded her the huge amount of money which in reality was equivalent to only *one day* of income from McDonald's sale of coffee, and that value was later reduced at appeal.
The McDonalds coffee lawsuit may be one of the *worst* examples of a frivolous lawsuit on the books. It's really actually a terrific example of our legal system *should* work to protect individuals from corporations that have enough money to bully their way though the courts.

Ah, I was unaware of the "entire" outcome of the suit, simply of the basics of it, which didn't make any sense to me.
In that particular case, yes, McD's was apparently trying to "get one over" on the public, but it only came to mind due to the initial sense of "i'm suing you because I'm an idiot". That one was a poor example, because I didn't know all the details.
The overall point I failed at making (

) was there's way too many MORONS in the world who are allowed to sue/complain/harass simply because they are MORONS! it pisses me off.
