under braking in 2nd gear I hang enough of my right foot over so it can blip the gas pedal, i stay in 2nd gear as long as possible, then i push the clutch all the way down, put the shifter into nuetral, i let the clutch all the way up (or i think i do) I rev match my engine, NOW i push the clutch back down and slide it into first, and it feels silky smooth.

with out the double clutching it won't go into first @ 25. even if i hold the rpms at 5000 it just won't. My WRX had the exact same feeling to it.

You forgot to mention the part where you are driving an STi. Slight improvements were made to that trasmission when it was designed.
