Nothing special as far as I can tell on the cams or head. My impression is this crank suffered from "short nose wobble" with a wallowed out key slot, and some shade tree did a DIY to fix it and get it back together in a hurry, on the cheap. That is indeed a gap on the left of the key about a mm or two wide. The crank/key failure is such a common thing with the 1.6 short nose I doubt this was done as an improvement.
Then again, anything is possible...
