As long as it doesn't break the OBD-II plug, you'll pass in NV.

That's the whole issue being brought to light; this could cause cars to fail even if they blow totally clean and have no mods besides a flash (that usually makes the car run cleaner anyways.)

In NV, an ODB-II car doesn't have to "blow" anything. There's a visual inspection that most places don't even bother with, and they plug in to the ODB-II port and ask the computer if there are any emmissions failures. That's it. As long as the reflash doesn't somehow report bad EGT temps or O2 failures or anything, you will pass.

I dont think you read the post varry well :?

I understand that the VIN function has been added. No big deal, not much of a concern as far as I can tell. VIN is a piec of cake, CVN is the one that bothers me.

I understand that the CVN function is still in place, I would not expect you to remove it as I'm sure you guys don't tuch 90% of the ROM, just the tables for fuel, timing, boost, and all the other tables that effect HP and drivability.
But from what I'm getting out of the description of the CVN, if you guys did not alter the CVN algorithm then it would spit out a calculated number from the ROM tables that would be much different than the stock CVN number that the algorithm would spit out if it was calculating the tables from the stock ROM.

So bottom line... if an ECU has a Flash, will the CVN algorithm come up w/ the same CVN if the car was stock? It doesn't seem likely to me, uless you guy alter the CVN algorithm to spit out the right number every time.

I dont' care. I'm still re-flashing my car. In 2005 California is also changing the smog certifications cylces to 6 years. I'll bet someone in the next 6 years will have a fix. If not, what's a new stock compliant ecu going to cost? I have seen wrx ecu's go for well under $1,000. So if that is the worst case scenerio I am looking at, then flash away.
