Is your sister hot?

But seriously, you wouldn't want to live with anybody from this place would you?

If you guys are interested in living near the University, I can put you in touch with my girlfriend's sister. She's a property manager there, has several rentals available last I checked.

Is there any way she has any decent 2 bedroom houses near unr with a garage and a nice yard for 2 dogs?

That was a quick change of mind!

You'd think with all the people upside down on their homes, finding an affordable rental house wouldn't be too hard. Have you guys looked for a house, esp. in the Double Diamond area?

What's your budget? You should be able to find a real nice 3 or 4 bedroom place for around $2000/mo... figure $670/mo each for three people... with utilities, that's probably under $1000/mo each. So I guess it's not "cheap", but it's not bad for living in a nice new house with a 3 car garage and new appliances, etc.

But you're back looking for that third (or even fourth?) roommate.

You have to remember being 21 and broke as hell too dude... if you were broke as hell at 21. Not all of us were. I sure as hell was, and even $500 was a stretch sometimes!

No doubt. I was living in San Luis Obispo at 21, where a 2 bedroom apartment required four people to be affordable at $1600/mo (and those are 1998 dollars), it was tough to make ends meet even getting financial help from the folks at the time.

But I don't know Em's situation. If she's got a $1000/mo budget, I think looking into renting a house is the way to go because you can get so much more for the money than an apartment, simply because there are a ton of people with "extra" houses they bought as investments that they're forced to rent because they're worth $100,000 less than they owe on 'em. You'd think you could hook up a nice place for relatively low money. For example, the place Lisa and I were renting before we bought our current house we were paying only $1350 for... and that was a 1400sqft 3 bedroom place, with pretty damn large bedrooms. $1350 is about what I was paying when I lived in a 3 bedroom unit on South Meadows 5 years earlier!

There was one just like that, but without a garage. I'll find out what's left and get back to you.

I totally see where you're coming from! My place right now: 1225 sq ft, 2 master bdrms, 2.5 bath, 2 car garage, hot tub, etc., $950 a month. My sis owns the place, and she's in the boat you mentioned, second "investment" house, that she's now forced to rent.

I do know that Em is in the "21 and broke as hell" situation tho... so there's big limits.

There is one thing to be said about being 21, broke as hell, and living in a tiny place with a bunch of friends... it's fun, even if it's hard or not so nice.

I guess my point is only not to be focused on just apartments when houses are pretty easy to rent these days.

Yeah I can only afford something under $500 a month...I don't make much money and i'm trying to find a second job. Me and my sister are looking around this weekend so hopefully we will find something.

Is Reno Vista a dump or in a bad area or something?

http://www.rent.com/rentals/nevada/r.../?tab=overview

Looks pretty damn nice for <$800/mo for a 2 bedroom unit.

Not the worst area, but it's kinda of dump. and old.

Well... sounds a lot better than the places I live in at 21... which were old, dumpy, unsafe-ish, and next to the railroad. As long as there aren't a million roaches that scatter when the lights come on and perpetual Mexican music coming through the walls, Em's ahead of the game.

(Hey Austin... remember Bullock Lane? *shudder*)

You've got to be real careful these days, with people renting out their upside-down mortgaged homes. Some renters have been evicted, because the home was foreclosed, and on top of that, the owners weren't in the position of being able to refund deposits.
