There is a viral email going around about how an Arab flight crew destroyed a new Airbus 340-600 during testing. I was telling Matt about it at dinner.

Well, thanks to Snopes, we know it was destroyed, but the details are in significant question... It definitely jumped a wall during a full engine test and is well broke... Linky to Snopes article with more pictures.

Oh, it was a A340., not an A380. Still a sweet new plane. Etihad is the airline that sponsors the Scuderia. Such a shame to scrap such a beautiful plane.

Yah, I realized that when I reread it... Still a bad day for the guy behind the stick who didn't power down. I can't imagine that you ever run the engines to full without more than enough runoff for a safety margin.

A lot of the time aircraft are tied down for engine run-up, especially full power ones. And they are usually done in designated 'run pad' areas. But typically a runpad is not setup for takeoff.
