OMG Internet!
Default FS: Laptop

It's an Everex XT5300T. I bought it new in March of 2008 from Newegg when it was on sale for $700.

It's upgraded with the following:

1) 4GB of Crucial RAM (2X2GB DDR2 PC2-5300). I'll also include the stock 1GB stick.

2) A 2nd HDD: Seagate Momentus 7200.2 ST9160823ASG 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache 2.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive
This computer has two hard drive bays...cool feature.

3)Targus/LiteON PA-1181-08 180W Power Supply. I can't find a link to a new one or to the product page, but there are plenty of refurbished models out there. I bought this new because I ran a lot of USB components and I noticed a lot of the guys with the older Everex XT5000T had upgraded to these...not sure if there's a real benefit over the stock 90 Watt unit. I will also include the stock one but the cord was chewed up by our dog and repaired with butt connectors and electrical tape. Works fine, but the cord is slightly shorter now.

I plan to wipe both hard drives and reinstall the factory image to the faster 160GB 7200RPM 3.0GBps drive. This hard drive performs better and then you can use the stock drive for extra on board data storage.

It's freshly cleaned, inside and out and runs great. The Nvidia 8600M GS video card allows it to play many games well. I played BioShock all the way through on it. I also played the Crysis demo on low settings and it ran fine. The COD4 demo looked and played beautifully on it. Dirt wouldn't play worth a damn though. Nvidia always has a recent video driver available on their site for download that work great on this laptop.

Works great as an HD HTPC with the DVI and SPDIF outs. DVI>HDMI cables are cheap. Quality is identical to laptops with HDMI out. You can enable the "silent mode" with the touch of a button which cuts the CPU speed in half, which turns down the CPU fan and it will still play an HD video just fine, silently.

I'm asking for $400 OBO with all upgrades.

Another option is that I keep the 180W power supply and the smaller/slower hard drive (or the faster/larger one if you prefer to keep the stock one instead) in which case it's $50 less. You won't notice any difference except you'll have an available hard drive bay to add additional on board storage to. Any 2.5" SATA hard drive will work.

This laptop died shortly after I started this thread...so you all dodged a bullet by not buying it.

Now it has 1GB of RAM and no hard drive. Anyone want it for $25? If not, I'll ebay it or something.

If it's got a real serial port on the back, I'll take it for $25.

That's assuming it'll run if I put a hard drive in it... how "dead" is it...?

I don't think it does ahve a serial port.

It won't POST, even with a hard drive. It's dead, dead. I assume it needs a new motherboard.

It's probably only valuable for spare parts at this point. If you could find the same model with a broken screen or something, you could Frankenstein it together.

Nevermind then. I have a spare laptop HD out of my Mac Mini and wanted a cheap XP laptop w/ a serial port for tuning the Hydra in the WRX since my new work laptop doesn't have a serial port. But I'm not feeling like going all repairman on something.

I hear that.

I do have a serial/USB adapter that I bought for my AP V1. It was a total ripoff from CompUSA some years ago.

Unfortunately, I think there's only like one brand of those adapters that works with the Hydra. Most adapters half-ass the RS232 protocol so all the kinky stuff the hydra does with the other pins on the port doesn't get translated to the wire.

I might have missed it but, what did you do with the 1gb stick or ram?

I traded it to Dean for two sticks of 512. That's what's in there now.
