hello everyone, let myself introduce myself. i hope this is the right place to do this? my name is mark lehner i live in truckee with my wife 1 child and 1 on the way. i am planning on joining the reno scca region this year and am looking for suggestions on my setup. i have an 05 wrx with turboback exhaust, exhaust manifold, typhoon intake, tuned at gst with cobb accessport (still on stock boost cause of weak solenoid), 18x7.5 rotas on falken azenis, swift springs, and a kartboy short shifter. i would like to upgrade my struts (one is blown) I have been checking out kyb agx's or the tokico's. wouldn't mind coilovers i just want to still be able to take the fam places. I also was going to change my brake rotors, pads lines and fluid, and was thinking of the h6 upgrade but heard it will mess with my bias? i think that's all and maybe see u all at one of the meets this week or next thanks in advance for your help and advice take it easy.

Welcome! I'm not sure what class the h6 upgrade is legal in, but otherwise, sounds like your car might be legal in ESP (E-Street Prepared) but we highly recommend you run Novice your first year, and not worry too much about classes and modifications while you learn the ropes.
![]() I'd consider replacing the stock boost solenoid with a Hallman Pro RX MBC (if your tuner is cool with it) or a 3 port "GM Boost Solenoid". I love my Koni inserts, but they're more expensive and more of a pain to install than Tokico D-Spec and KYB AGX. I can say that when I moved from KYB AGX to Koni, it helped my times without adding any NVH.

Welcome! The meets are pretty sparse lately. Its a good idea to post in the thread when you plan on coming down to Reno, and see if anyone else is going to make it that Thursday.

Hey Mark, glad you found your way over here from RenoSCCA. Welcome.
Most coilovers are not going to be too family friendly, so I would ride in a car with them before going that route. I am not a big fan of inserts because of lower fluid capacity, shorter throw and possibly smaller shaft. I'd stick with whole struts. The KYBs are reasonably priced. Hope you kept your stock headers. Many have tried aftermarket and gone back to stock, some with larger crossover. Only change rotors if they are worn out. Drilled are bad and slotted are a toss up. Pads and good fluid are the biggest change. EBC greens are a probably the best bang for your buck performance street/autocross and maybe first couple track days. Otherwise, wait until somebody is selling a set of front Stoptechs w/lines. Great brakes and help stock bias issue. Classic brake fluid thread still pretty much true. We also have a great shop here in Reno run by a couple club members if you need one. That should be enough to get you going.

Dean, regarding brake pads... give the new StopTech street performance pads a shot as an alternative to the EBC greens. I'm running a set on my SVX now and they're fantastic. Quieter, less dust, and better fade resistance than the greens.

Cost vs EBCs? That would be a big factor if I was going to use them. I actually run yellows all the time.

Interesting. That is reasonable. It looks like EBC stopped making the greens for WRX/STIs. Reds are the new Greens at $98.

sounds good agx's, pads, and fluid. i think i can swing that by april. and for the agx's i know i need the spacer but will my oem tophats work for this or do i need grp n's?

Assuming your springs and everything else is all MY04+ compatible, which I'm sure it is given that your car is an 05, you just need TIC spacers or equivalent. Instead of spacers, you can use Grade 8 or harder washers, which is what I did and had zero issues for the 4 or so years I ran AGX's. I'd give you the washers I used but I included them with the AGX's when I sold them to a buddy.
