Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.
Default Pahrump Canceled!

Don't know why exactly, but I just got it from the event master.

There are spaces left a Laguna for Novices(0 track experience), and instructors.

Perhaps we need to find the next SCCA street school at Thunderhill and invade that. Those are supposed to be very good compared to NASA events.

If they would just get Fernley usable, I'd run an event there...

Next HPDS at T Hill is Valentine's Day. Luckily, my girl had a BLAST on track last time, so I might be able to make it.

Yep, Feb. 14, followed by April 10 for Thunderhill Street School.

She had fun, really? I'm glad. It didn't seem like she was to me.

If you try for Laguna, the cheap place to stay is the Holiday Inn Seaside. It is right next to the Embasy, and 1/2 the price...

Well, she had fun in the car with me on the track. The rest of the time she was zonked, she had like 5 hours sleep in the past 2 days.

Dean, are you going to Seca for sure? I will find out monday if I can get out of town. I will need to leave Friday morning I'm sure. I'm 75% sure I'm going to go to Seca now...I'll let you know. Anyone else want to go?

I'm always down for bumming a ride around track in someone else's car.

Yes, I will be there instructing which takes a lot out of you so I am taking Fri. & Mon. off for travel.

Anyone is welcome to come and watch, but here are the issues with riding.

Only Audi club memebrs can ride, and only with instructors, and students ge priority over guests. It isn't usually an issue to get a guest a ride, but It will cost you to become a member if you aren't already. I just wanted to make sure you know what the rules are so there is no misunderstanding about coming down.

I'd *really* like to make Seca, but I've got a bunch of issues:

It's friggen expensive. I'm not sure I can affor the $500 for entry, $40 for an Audi Club membership, $70 for an alignment, and prolly another $100 for fuel for the weekend. Not to mention the cost of hotel and food in Monterey.

I'll have to take time off work... I'm thinking I could work Friday, and drive to the Bay Friday night to crash at my parents house, then drive from Danville to Seca Saturday morning. Then I'd have to take Monday off to get back to Reno. Ideally, I'd take Friday off too. The biggest issue is getting *anything* off on such short notice.

Yikes, after making my list, I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna make it. Why must Seca call to me so!!

I think I can swing the trip, I will know for sure tommorrow. But damn, I really want to get to a track day this year, and this seems like the best option. Also, how sick would it be to drive seca! I gotta go.

Yeah, I've heard that Seca is one of the most expensive tracks to run at in California. But on the bright side, you could save that $70 and do the alignment yourself.

It is AWESOME!
There will be at least one other sti and one other wrx there (besides dean), a couple of guys I instructed at Pahrump last year (Mike & Dick).
You could get away with taking off Friday afternoon (noon); and last year I traveled home after the Sunday sessions, and got home around 9:30. So you don't necessarily need to take Monday off from work.
Tempting!!!

Actually, I got a MM camber gauge, and built myself a set of 6' wide aluminum calipers to measure toe. But I still want to do a home alignment, then bring it to a shop to check how good my job is. Plus, with the adjustable ride-height, I'd like to get the car corner-weighed and balanced. I'm a little worried about my accuracy, because after lowering the car several inches, my toe was still right at 0 degrees!

Speaking of alignment, I can't get the news-paper under the tires trick to unbind the suspension after lowering the car off the jack... 'course I tried it with Summitt Racing catalog pages, and not real newspaper... does the trick only work with real newsprint?

A stack or folded plastic trash bags with or without grease between them is supposed to work well, and of course, the smoother the underlying surface, the better.

I think actual newspaper works the best due to the type of paper and ink they use.

When I lower the car after chenging wheels or something, I just roll it backwards then forwards to de-stress everything before I do final torque.

OK I'm in for Seca!!!

Dean, I'm just waiting for my membership to go thru for ACNA. So I can register with my member #.

Can I send in the registration without my ACNA #? It should be okay right? I have a pending account #. I just want to get the registration all taken care of.

Do you have a phone # handy for Holiday Inn?

Thanks
Matt

I could pull it off potentially if I took a half day friday and monday or something... but the big problem is the cost:

$395 entry fee
$25 late entry fee
$40 Audi Club membership
$125 Estimated 5 tanks of gas for the weekend
$30 splitting a hotel room w/ you for a 1 night (spend Friday and Sunday nights at my parents if possible)
$70 four wheel alignment
= $685 plus all the random misc expenses for a weekend out of town, and the heat I'd take at work for missing another 8 hours.

The real kicker is that that list reads like a MasterCard commercial, and should be followed with:

"A weekend of track time and driving instruction at the greatest race track in the world in a kick-ass subaru: priceless."

But at this point, I'm not even sure if I'd be able to get my membership and entry fees all squared away in time, even if I scraped together the money. I wonder if I called the guy running the event if I could get my memebership expidited or something.

Ugh, I *really* want to go... *really*. I guess if I could put the entry fee on my credit card, I'd be able to go, but I really loath using my card, since I'm working so hard to pay it off... Dammit! Why'd they have to cancel Pahrump!!?
