Ok, I got hooked up for x-mas with $300 for winter tires. What should I get and who should I go through. I need the hook up. I got my stockers to toss em on. Kepp in mind I only have the $300 and no more.

I don't know if we can do that in a pure "Snow Tire" ... Maybe Khail's discount could find something. Best PRICE I can find for a "snow Tire" is Discount Tire Goodyear Ultra Grip Ice for $88 each shipped + tax. If you will settle for a M+S all-season, you get more choices, and maybe some change even after the Khail discount. I run the Sumitomo HTR+s on my A4 year round, and they are pretty good in the snow, and not bad the rest of the time, and CHEAP! $65 before Khail discount + tax. The Kumho ASX at $69 is probably another good contender for a year round AS with some Snow usability. Those are probaby the best you can do unless Khail can get a screaming deal on the $100+ Snows from TireRack

Yeah, $300 is about $100 too little for a set of dedicated snow tires. I've heard good things about the HTR+'s as an all-season tire, and I had a set of 'em in near-bald condition on my SVX when I bought it, but I only drove on those for a few weeks before getting some Wintersport M3's, and that was only in the dry, so I can't really review 'em for their winter performance. But for a bald tire in the dry, they worked pretty well.

What about going with a set of 215/55 R16 winterforce? They retail for $72 a tire with no discount.

gotta do what i gotta do so i can plow thru the snow, 1.7% off is still better than summer tires on ice. So who do I need to PM to get the ball rolling on this one?

Narrower than OE is better than wider than OE for winter... of course having said that, I went with 205/50R15 Dunlop M3s on the Miata instead of stock size 195/50s in order to get the better tire (it was only available in a handful of sizes, and I had to wait for a re-stocking to get them). For the Miata, I figured I needed more of a slush tire than the all-out ice.snow dominator that is the WS50. The downside of the WS50 is that's a very soft compound intended for very cold temps- like -50 F up to freezing. I wore the ones on my van down halfway after only 10,000 miles or so. All in dry weather fairly warm this fall.

I PM'd you back. If you could have done this earlier in the year you would have had more choices in the right size. I think the 205/55/16 Winterforces were less than $70 each, but they have been out of them for a while. 215/55 is available still.
