A week after moving to Carson, I came up to Alaska to do fieldwork related to geology exploration. I've ended up doing a lot of managerial-type work because of some total planning idiocy, but there's also been some fun times mixed in... Plus, giving me control of a web domain was company mistake #1 --- not too many remote field camps have their own webpage... http://nyac.tonogoldprivate.com

Did I miss something? That doesn't look like a gun to me... it looks like some sort of drilling equipment.

Did you never see the Beverly Hillbillies? Everyone knows all you have to do is shoot at the ground to find oil... I think the bears ate his shorts... Cool stuff. I was hoping for a picture of the cardboard bear on wheels though.

Heli-drilling --- fun times. We tried to move the rig last night as a storm came in, and didn't get the mast on. The driller is a real professional with 17 years experience, and after 3 passes with the helicopter banging that 2500 lb mast around, he and I were looking at each other over our glasses, totally soaked and dripping, shaking our heads and called it off. This morning we got it on in much nicer weather... No oil, just gold (we hope). It's there, Dean:

Ah, the pants are for self preservation vs. Mosquitos. What the heck do they bite if you people weren't there? Cardboard bears can't be that satisfying. Speaking of which, I looked but couldn't find it. I like the bear. I can see why you lost a couple folks to it. Very menacing... Did people tend to shoot over the top of it since it is pretty low?

Y'know, I think that most of the misses were low, for some reason. I, however, did place one too high on the first shot, as my .45 is zeroed at like 80 yards. I nailed the others though. The bear was placed at 30yds or so, and then towed with a quad. The guy pulling mine was hitting 4th gear by the time it passed me, so I was only getting 2 shots off from the draw, and 3 shots from the ready. Fun stuff.
