Default Concept Subaru Roadster.. opinions?

I was reading the new R&T, and they had a comparo between several of the current concepts for the next gen sports cars, and one of them included a rather odd looking Subaru Roadster... what do you guys think? Im sure you guys saw it before I did.. but still.

It looks like a Z4 that ate a Alfa Romero and threw up a Miata.

Or something along those lines. My brain hurts...I have been here at work for 12 hours.

I want an AWD roadster!!! This car with the WRX or STI engine would be cool. Though I'd like some roll protection stock... There doesn't look like much.

The concept has an 2.0L hybrid motor. No turbo (at least I don't think) but a super torquey electric motor for speeds below 50mph (the gas engine kicks in above 50mph or when the electric motor is low).

(hey Nick, check the source on you post w/ the pics... we've got a width parameter for [img ] tags on this board.)

I dig the idea, but dislike the execution. The car's too "toy" looking. Maybe it's just the crappy paint job. Chalk it up as another car I'd like to see built, but would never own.

EDIT: nm, I see what you did. Will do in the future

I wish other boards had that same feature... I guess I should give out the code?

Two things I've noticed about Subaru designers, esp. in they're concept cars:

1) They *really* want to build some sort of retro styled car.

2) They missed the day at design school when they covered headlights.

While I'm not opposed to the new "circular center" grill, I'd like it if they cleaned it up a bit... less round, less chrome, make it a bit sharper with more contrast... It's 2004 for god's sake, not 1954! And put some goddam SQUARE headlights back on the cars... you had it right in '98 with the Impreza!

When I get home from work, I'll see if I can't sketch something up that doesn't suck.

I agree with you man, that body with a more stylized version of the older Impreza with say.. projector headlights.. would be the hottness

Looks likw the Saturn sKy. roadster concept,

but the Saturn had much better lights and toned down front.

BO yAH!

and it's rear wheel drive has 280HP, and is light as a feather.

NOT!

That Saturn concept is based on the Pontiac Solstice, which is going into prduction next year. NA 2.4 liter, 160ish hp, and supercharged 2.2 liter, somewhere around 220 hp. I'm thinking REALLY hard about getting the NA one, but I'm disappointed that they kept 18s on it. Oh well. I'm sure there will be some 17" wheels that fit the brakes and weigh less than stock. If the Subaru roadster goes into production I'd have a real hard time deciding. If they tone down the styling a bit anyway.

It looks better than the Solstice though imo.

Rollover protection is for wussies. Manly men drive roadsters like that on track at 150+mph with no helmet, no seatbelts, and their hair on fire.

Isn't there a car like this in 'Who Killed Roger Rabbit'?, j/k

I kinda like the cartoony headlights. They look like anime eyes.
