Default Minor facelift...

...to the front page:

http://www.seccs.org

I think the last time the news was updated, was the last time the meet location changed.

BTW: if anyone's interested in helping maintain the front page news, let me know and I'll create you a news admin account. Right now, it's not linked to the forum accounts... but I'm sure there's a way to sort that out.

What website is that? I don't think I've ever seen it before.

That website reminds me of the hot tub time machine.

Lifted the face a little bit again... the pictures from 2005 were a little dated... now we've got some from 2006!

Someone warm up the hot tub, I'm gonna do a cannon-ball.

Looks nice. I'll let you use this pic as the background. You know you want to.

I don't think a red-X fits in with the theme quite right.

An action pic of your car would be better.

Seriously. I still love that Dave put that photo on the promo poster for the first season of Time Trials.

After viewing this I am now unmotivated to participate in a track day at RFR.

As for the facelift, it was definitely overdue

With RFR as it stands, you are in luck!

In all honesty, the front straight (where that incident occurred) at RFR is a bit hairy with a moderately powerful street car and no cage. Its long enough that you can just get too much speed. We laugh about it now, but until the dust settled it wasn't quite all fun and games.

If they ever open back up, you can always just lift a little before going into the esses after the front straight. Going 100+ into those esses is a bit much. 80, on the other hand, doesn't feel quite as hairy. Of course, that's depending on whether you want to even tempt it or not.

And I'm in that "moderately powered street car with no cage" class. I think after an experience like that I would be saving every penny for a cage and some good harnesses. Hell, I've thought about it anyway, but don't want the hassle of having to climb over the door bars in my DD.
I've heard its easy to hit 100+ on that front stretch, definitely sounds like a good idea to have someone next to you telling you to back off.

To reiterate what Nick said... if you're not scared entering the esses flat-out at RFR, at least just a little bit, you should get out of the car, 'cause you're nuts. (Well, maybe not if you're driving a 90hp MR2 or something.) I've got a cage in my car, and I still touch the brakes on the way in to reassure myself they're there.

The simple fix however is just to lift the throttle as you cross the S/F line. Then just give the car a little maintenance throttle to keep the drivetrain from slacking and cruise through the esses. That isn't scary at all once you've done it a few times.

Sounds like I may have a volunteer instructor if RFR ever opens back up and I decide to take a lap...

The main issue IMO was that I had no instructor. I was assured instructors would be available, but when I asked for one, I was told none were available. It was my first day ever at a track but the 2nd session so I had had time to build up some [false] confidence. I had never even been to an autox IIRC. The last couple PDX's I attended were much better though...a lot more instruction on and off the track. Dean knows how to run a good program.

As for what I specifically did wrong, I disobeyed the instructions I was given and passed without being given a point by. I tried to wait for it, but a third of the way down the straight I lost my patience with the slow Integra in front of me and just passed him. He didn't let off and I didn't know you were supposed to get way right before a left nor did I know that you shouldn't lift when the car is light in the corner...needless to say I do now.

Sounds like a lesson learned the hard way.

As for the facelift....
I am glad y'all took the pic of the evo off of the homepage since this is the SubaruECCS.

I do too, I just didn't think it belonged in the front of a long line of subarus and on a Subaru Enthusiasts home page
