So I just did a valve job on my 99 legacy OB. Got it all together, turned it over and came up with P0336. No problem belt must be a tooth off. I got it all apart, started lining everything up but my crank shaft locks up. It will turn 3/4 of a turn either direction but will not come back to #1 TDC.

Ive tried various valve positions but it stops hard either direction in the same location. Listening to the motor with a scope i cant hear anything loose inside there. What did i do? nate |

My guess is you were 360 crank or 180 cam degrees out of sync on at least one cam. You probably bent something. Sorry, but you are likely going to need to tear it down again.

Always turn a rebuilt over by hand the first 720 degrees. Even that won't save you all the time. My dad did the same thing with his Lotus.

Maybe im still in denial. When i cranked it for a bout 20 sec it sounded fine. When i pulled the timing covers off and rotated it by hand 1: it turned fine. 2. the cams were good. the crank was 2 tooth off.

I guess the only way to find out is visual inspection. |

If you can't rotate the crank by hand something is definitely wrong. I would guess your hard stop means 2 parts are contacting at that point internally.

I'm not from Reno so can't recommend a shop, but breathing mods don't do much on the 2.5's. I had mine done(port and polish) and the difference was negligible, even on the butt dyno. I got much better results with headers and a header-back exhaust on my 97.
