Yes, we should assist our allies in defending their borders where appropriate, but trying to "police" a civil or internal conflict is like trying to have school children herd rabid cheetahs. And thrusting "democracy" on a country leads me to think of the old horse and water adage. It just isn't going to work.

A lot of people I speak to say this. Or something closely related with the same message. Even most of the people posting in this thread agree with eachother. So why the fuck doesn't the shit that the people want get done? I hope it's not oen of those "the people don't know what they want" kinda things. It's odd to me that so many people agree on something like this, but then the message gets lost when it gets to the people that make the decisions. Kinda the same deal to me as illegal immigration. Most people are against it, but politicians are too *insert adjective here* to have anything done about it. I dunno, maybe I just don't understand politics, but I don't get how this is a democracy if what the people want (for the most part) isn't upheld by those who represent them.

Frankly, it's because the people in the Whitehouse are oil tycoons trying to make themselves and their buddies a bunch of money in the Middle East. And it's very sad that it's that simple... but when you shovel through all the doublespeak, and all the spin, all the religious innuendo, all the false morality about promoting freedom, and all the lies... really, it's because the President and his buddies are using the power of the US to try and benefit themselves financially.

The voice of the people is being ignored because the people don't have anything more than a voice these days to change things. And if things keep going the way they are, our voices will eventually be regulated by DRM and copyright laws.

According to Sean Hannity and Rush Assbaugh that's a silly conspiricy theory.

Sperry, why do you freinds have to make a 93,000 ton atomic-powered aircraft carrier?

I expect for the same reason we have 14 of them (or will once the Regan and Bush are in service).

Are ours designed specifically for attacking China? Not really, but they could certainly be used that way. Same with there's... I can't say they're not building them to attack us, but there are plenty of reasons besides fighting the US for them to build 'em.

One or even two CVN's, although very potent, aren't really a match for the US pacific fleet in a real fight. It is however a huge step up in their ability to project power throughout their sphere of influence in the western pacific, specifically aimed at Taiwan I would guess.

Time will tell if they're satisfied with a couple of carriers or if they just keep pumping them out like Wal-Mart TV sets and become a bigger threat...
