I would much rather have a film go over the top in terms of actions and effects than fall short through the whole film. Peter Jackson although throwing a lot of his own money into this film is still taking chances in a big Hollywood Blockbuster. I was pretty awed by the length he went to make sure you cringed. Many moviegoers need that over the top scene to keep them interested.

The Anne/Kong complex I really had no problems with. Although it was drawn out a bit sometimes I liked it. I take it as Jackson being edgy. Jackson has a wierd directing library, for the last couple of years though he has become quite the hollywood darling for obvious reasons.

I never really felt like the movie was getting long. Anytime I felt like a scene was too long I thanked Peter Jackson. Because with all the extra minutes of good Kong, I can make up for all the other garbage I sit through.

Excellent point, and I would have to agree, he did a very good job at keeping my full attention for 3 hours...that's tough to do.

Like I said, after watching the main characters almost get stepped on and survive a few times, seeing it another 10 times does nothing for the plot. Instead of sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time, after a while I was just watching to see how they did the effects... which is something I shouldn't be doing until I watch the DVD special features.

About halfway through I was watching the scene while ignoring the CGI and realizing how dumb the actors must have looked running down a blue-screened hallway dodging imaginary dinosaur feet. And by the end, the dino-pile *was* comedic, though it was intentional... I was unfortunately laughing not because the scene was funny, but because it was too absurd. It would have been better if they hadn't gone quite so over the top.

The same can be said for the bug canyon scene. The bugs were too big... I t would have been far creepier if they had been only slightly larger than real bugs. A violent grasshopper as big as they were in the movie would tear your face off in a second, since bugs have emmence strength for their size. Plus that scene suffered from being too long as well... once again leaving me ignoring the CGI and imagining the actors w/o the graphics.

Of course, I am nit-picking a bit... the movie was much better than most the garbage coming out of hollywood.
I haven't seen the movie yet, but I have a habit of doing that myself - as soon as the initial wow wears off, I start to analyze the imagery. I always end up wishing that the director/editor would move on to the next scene or cut a bit faster.
