No, I won't work on your car. F* your car

I'm pretty pleased with my first set of Dunlop tires. They're a different set than what you're looking at (Direzza Z1*), but they're a very decent tire so far!

For <$70, the 8000 is the only choice i would even consider and should be OK
If you can afford $10 more per tire, I'd go with the Kumho Ecsta SPTs. They will last longer, handle better and probably do much better in the wet for thunder storms and spring/fall giving you a 3 season tire. I use them as Streets and Wet track tire for my STI. The Fuzion ZRi might be a good new choice for $1 more, but I don't know anyone who has tried them yet. I think it is what we put on the SCCA Infinity pace car though. (After it was fixed) I would not go with any of the other <$80 each choices.

Just for street driving? If you have a stock 08 it's not like you have tons of suspension to take advantage of high end tires. I'm sure plenty of people will disagree with me but any decent mid-level tire will be more than sufficient for your car. I've run super sticky tires on a soft suspension before and it's not all it's cracked up to be. Long story short the Dunlops should be fine, I prefer to run Falkens though. I ran 512s on my DD Legacy and they worked just fine.

I have used the Ecsta SPT's (on my car now) and ZRi's. I like them both and the ZRi's lasted quite a long time. I like the ZRi's a bit more because they have a stiffer sidewall than the SPT's.
Dunno bout Dunlops though.

The 8000 is just an older tread design and compound. It will likely wear faster than either the SPT or Fusion and underperform them wet and dry. They are not a bad tire, just not great. On 16s, nothing is going to be unfun to drive.

The 912's are a *huge* improvement from the 512's. Quieter, more grip, and from what I can tell, longer life.

That's good to know, considering I was already quite pleased with the 512s

Make sure you go with 215-40-17. I hear that's a killer size for Subarus.

I can't get a different size tire cause then I would have to get wheels which I don't have the money for.

Don't listen to the bozos. They are making a reference to a post on a different forum and trying to be funny and failing.

You could go 225/50/16, but they may squirm a bit and with gas prices, narrower is preferable.
