Default Alfa 149 Hatch - Turbo-Diesel Variant too

1.9 liter diesel, with turbo trim

the base is a 1.6 liter gasoline, starting at £16K. Euro prices are higher usually, esp. England, so I'm guessing $20K base MSRP?

It's supposed to compete with the Focus and such

As long as the weight/power ration and what looks to me to be potential for a serious blindspot aren't issues, I like it.

Still totally worth it. That's like VW R32 price range, for a much cooler car.

How is it that everything Alfa builds these days just looks so dman good, and no one else can figure it out? I love that car.

My buddy has an R32.....I don't see what all the fuss is. The tranny feels goofy as hell - it's like driving while floating in a bathtub. He's got an exhaust on it, too, and it drones more than the wagon, which is quite a feat; I'd rather have a true auto or a real stick. I'm sure it grows on you, and I'm sure I'm a Subaru snob who's used to my STi in terms of speed and torque, but it feels more like driving my wagon in terms of speed and driver involvement....and my wagon handles better. The interior is nice and all, and everything works on it, it's just got no passion becuase everything is so computerized.......the STi, even with all the electronics, feels more raw (which I suppose is the whole point and why people like the more refined choices).

That said, Alfa will never sell a 1.9 turbo here in any real numbers becuase it'll get mediocre mileage and it'll cost way more than a comparable Golf and be fighting with (and outgunned) by an A3 with better dealership support, which is the real competition for this car in the US. It's sexy as hell, but I don't think I'd pick it over something that cost 5-10k less (like a Speed 3) and didn't have Italian maintenance costs.

I'd like a Speed 3 a lot better if it came with a dual-clutch, paddle-shifter option.

Real men use both feet

I'm sure we all also miss hand-cranking the engine to start it
