Default Tech inspection for track day

I know there is a planned tech inspec for the day before. Should we do one earlier in case something needs to be done. As an example (I know Scott and I talked a little about this last weekend) I have a small crack in the center of my windshield. It is approximately 3/4" - 1" horizontal and dead center on the windshield. I personally don't think it's a problem but if it fails the tech, I'm hosed trying to get the windshield replaced in time.

And heck I'd hate to not use my brand new sparco race suit with matching shoes!

That won't keep you off. It's more about brake pads and tread depth and nothing falling off the car.

Windshield cracks/chips are becoming a bit of a point on these tech inspections. We've got another member that says she won't be able to run if she's got to replace the windshield before the event.

The truth is, I don't have a good guideline as to what's allowable, and what's dangerous as far as windshield cracks. I was planning on tagging along with the tech inspectors as this weekend's autocross and picking their brains.

The best I can tell you: come to a meet. Matt and I will be able to check out your car and let you know if we'd pass or fail the crack or chip. Chances are, if the crack isn't in the line of sight for the driver, and doesn't compromise the integrity of the windshield, it will pass.

I will try to make the meet next week or the week after so you can check it out. Due to how pitted my windshield is, I will probably get it replaced sometime soon; I just don't know if it will be before the meet.

Thanks
