Default R.I.P.

So I have been a little out of it lately. A really good friend of mine died on Sunday night.

http://rgj.com/news/stories/html/2005/09/12/108615.php

The people on the ride said that he was in the middle and he went down and almost hit others. They are also claiming that they were doing nothing wrong.

What saddens me to no end is how many lies people are telling to save thier own asses.

This is what I was told by an officer involved in the accident.

The riders all left VC at the same time heading down back towards reno. When they approached the flatspot where the virgina foothills are, a NHP clocked the front 6 riders @ 120+ MPH. After the group passed the NHP, he pulled out lights and sirens on. The group had already decided to run if they were persued. (This is usually figured out before any good ride, as nevada is a non pursuit state). So the front runners set the pace and Scott fell the back of the line. He had only been riding since June of this year, but was already an excellent novice rider. Once they cleared out of the flat and into the first set of turns it was clear the group was seperating. Scott fell even farther behind. The police officer states that while trying to negotiate a left hand hairpin turn the rider highsided his bike at close to 100 MPH. He was instantly ejected from the bike and thrown in front of it. He slid for around 100 ft before coliding with a gaurd rail post in between his legs forcing his upper body up and thus his head into the gaurd rail itself. The police officer states that from the impact he witnessed he knew that the rider was DOA. He proceeded down the hill and arrested several riders at the 7-11 where they awaited the rest of the group. He didnt stop at the accident. He radioed for help as he passed through it. Not one single rider I have spoke with involved has even told me a story that slightly resembled this. I was not there but the conflicting stories from everyone are starting to really upset me.

Scott taught me everything I know about car audio, he was there was noone else was to stand by me and actually help me learn. He got me the job I have now, he was a dear friend and will be missed.

That sucks man. I guess sometimes it's better just to take your licks w/ the cops and pay the ticket, at least if you're still a novice rider. It's a real shame to lose a friend over something like trying to avoid a speeding/reckless ticket.

My condolences.

How many more people will it take till people realize the danger of the road.

Deal, did somebody say Deal? Oh, Dean, yeah that's me.

Sorry it happened. While they were not personal friends, I was the event master for the Virginia City Hill Climb where the Viper went off and resulted in a double fatality. While that can't compare to losing a close freind, I was so closely involved with the recovery, investigation and meeting with the families that it had a huge impact on me, so I can only imagine what you are going through.

I would encourage you to discuss this with someone close to you and/or the clergy, counselor of your choice. Talking about it can help you to begin to heal. It may never make sense, and will likely be with you forever, but there are only positive things that can come from talking to someone about it.
