Default Ok what the hell is wrong with my clutch...

Sometimes my clutch will start to get kinda mushy and then after using it a few more times it will stick down. Not all the way but it has about 1" (literally) of travel then just stays there. Its a sporaditic problem and a subaru dealer and my personal mechanic (it wouldn't do it when I took it to him though) can't figure out what's wrong? Any help here guys?

Ever bleed the clutch master cylinder and related hydraulics? It is leaking?

The first guy to look at it bled it. I dunno I haven't looked for leaks. I would assume my mechanic would have found any.

I figured I'd cover the obvious stuff 1st just in case.

There's no clutch cable or anything on your car, right? I know mustangs use a cable that tends to bind up in its sleeve... just ask Austin about his beefy left leg.

Other than that, I'm a n00b when it comes to clutch issue diagnosis.... so I gots no help for ya.

It's hydraulic so no cable to my knowledge.

Usually a loss of pedal firmness and travel is the master or slave cylinder leaking. My old Isuzu used to do that for a while sporadically, then one day the pedal went to the floor and stayed there. I had to replace the clutch master cylinder.

JC, maybe you should stop granny-shifting and not double clutching like you should.

I agree. I used to have a Mazda Mx-6 turbo that had the same symptoms. Turned out to be the slave cylinder. Very easy & inexpensive fix.
