www.discounttiredirect.com is a better link.

That's a deal. Get some winters or 615s with basically 1 tire free.

I have the W300s and they are pretty good. (225/45-17)

I was looking at 255/40-17 Nitto NT-01 R compounds.

Yeah, they served you well but I'm a total tire elitest. I'm set on some 3Ds unless I decide I need the amazing ice handling of the REVO1s.

I'm dying to drive in the snow/ice with my 3D's. I've never had real winter tires before.

I can't wait to have exemption from Newton's theories.

The W300s are on the A4, I have used 3Ds for the STI though it may not see much snow with the stiff suspension.

Yes. I've never had snows on a street suspensioned car, so this will be a good test of the W300s. They are basically still new. I am not saying they are Revos or 3Ds, but they did well on stiff cars and should do even better on the A4 and they are a pretty good bang for your buck.

Oh, and they did well in the dry/rain at Laguna and/or Sears Pt..

I thought my W300s did really well last winter, but I haven't tried any of the name brand performance snows yet.

That's the only thing I'm afraid of. If they are even a little bit less capable than my M3s, I'd be annoyed with them all winter.

Not that it is a true indicator, but the W300s are V rated in 225s and the 3D is H or V depending on what you order, so be careful!!!

V rated should be better in the dry but may give up a bit in the snow.

I don't care about speed rating with snows. I'll never get past 80 on them, if that. My old Dunlops were great at carrying 75 or so through the curvy bits of 80 down by the rest stop at Gold Run, so that's good enough for me. I'd give up max lateral grip for better ice grip anyway, since that's the whole point of not running all seasons.

Huh? M3s, 3Ds and W300s are all performance/sport snows, not hard core grip ice/snows like the Blizak Ws-50, Revos, etc.

Any tire should be able to handle 80 at 75 in the dry, even RE-92s. So I don't understand what you are saying.

Either you want ice traction and go with Revos or you give up some of that and look to the sport tires... If you do the later, a V speed rating is probably at least a partial indicator of how the tire is constructed relative to dry performance.

I'm not talking about the H rated tires flying apart at highway speeds, I am talking about sidewall and ply construction related to performance. In most cases, a V tire will be a higher performance tire than an H. I'm also not saying we are going autocrossing on our snows, but the feel of a higher performance tire and once the 3-4/32nds of an inch of snow compound wears off, many of us will run those tires for one or more years of spring-fall until they die. During that time as well as when new in the dryer roads of Reno, I definitely would prefer a higher performance tire.

Now if I lived in Truckee, Tahoe or skied enough to get a season pass, I'd lean toward the Revos.

I'm running some Yokohama Iceguards on the STi because I enjoy overkiill and it was an excuse to put Boosts on the STi for winter.

Actually fine in the dry, great in the wet, will see in the snow.
