coilovers ?
so a few of know that im bouncing back and forth about whether or not to buys coilovers or just upgrade my top hats. well tonight the answer fell in my lap.
coilovers for a retarded low price. cusco zero 2E, heres the question, anyone on here have any experience with them? first hand or second hand. i know they arent the most adjustable only 5 adjustments, but on the shock dyno the clicks ACTUALLY do something. so anyways, feed me some knowledge. if i hate them ill just around and sell them for more than i bought them for.

Tons of adjustability is overrated.
If the setup is designed for a specific car, you only need minor changes of the dampers for different surface conditions and damper wear. Don't forget you will likely need an alignment after and don't go to low! http://www.seccs.org/forums/showthre...s+ride+heights

I've heard that the Cusco's will rattle your fillings loose. If you're driving it every day, I'd suggest going with your tophat plan, it rides much nicer on the springs you have.

I've always read that Cuscos are the best of the Japanese coilovers, and having coilovers will allow you to fit those bigger tires you were talking about. Even set on the softest they still won't be very compliant though.

current setup is just 05 struts with tanabe springs. i dont even have group n tops yet but i was planning on either doing that or getting coilovers.
thats funny that link is to the other guy that was going to buy the set that im buying. he backed out and now the balls in my court. i just look at it like. i can put them on. and if they suck nuts im sure one you autox guys might want them and i wont lose too much money. or even sell again on nasioc. dont really care which. basically i just dont see it as a big of risk. since im spending so little. might be just me.

My Megan's had 8kg(450lb/in) front and 6kg(335lb/in) rear spring rates. I liked them for a while, but eventually got tired of bouncing around over small bumps at highway speeds, even with the stock tires on. I decided to lower the spring rates with eibach springs to 325lb/in f and 275lb/in rear on the same coilovers. It rides much nicer, corners very well, and does not bounce around over small bumps. My ride hight is 14in f and 13.5in r
The adjustablility doesn't make that big of a difference. There are 32 settings on the Megan's, and you can only notice a small difference in damping from hardest to softest. I don't know what the spring rates are on the coilovers your looking at, hopefully this will help. I would like the stiffer springs if I took my car to the track though. |

hmm. aight this goes out to the autoX madtyejDm drivers on the board.
is anyone that autox's ALOT take my shit for a spin ? dean mentioned dropping my rear sway bar down so i dont get so much rotation. since i drive really fast in a straight line and not so much on the turns perhaps one of you with a narrow ass (cause my seat is small) can take it for brief spin. maybe give me some feedback concerning my weak points. i have decided im going to get the coilovers. if i end up hating them ill mark them down to even cheaper so i can get the top hats i want and go back to stock struts. im sure someone here or on nasioc will buy them for that cheap.

I would totally go for coilovers if I wasn't so fond of my kidneys.

DoP, I'm plenty thin, and would be glad to drive your car, (even though I haven't been auto-x'ing as long as some of the peeps around here...) but really, it'd be impossible to drive the car in a way that would give any kind of real feedback, without actually being at an event. I don't think there's many people on here that'd feel comfortable really "pushing it" on the street, in order to give a good *review* of your current setup. Not to mention slinging around a car that someone else has put so much time/$$$$$ into, in an uncontrolled environment... I'm sure anybody would be glad to take it for a spin, but I don't know how effective it'd be in helping point out any handling quirks, from an auto-cross point of view.

I would be glad to drive your car. I only autocrossed this season but hell, I would drive your car anyway . Assuming you would be ok with me smearing Crisco all over your seat so I can fit in it.

I once had an impreza with stock dampers and sport springs. Later I went to a coilover setup.
I noticed that things like at the limit handling, steering feel, straight line tracking all improved vastly. As those things improved daily ride quality decreased in a very linear way. I think this is what most people already know about coilovers. I would rather not have coilovers on a car if I did not have to. But for nice predictable all out handling you can't beat them.

yeah the only other car i had with coilovers were the DMS 40's from way back in the day, on my blue wrx. i loved loved loved them. they didnt decrease the ride at all. i had them with the old M2 custom spring rates. i figure the cuscos will get the econ and then ill just turn them super soft. then when i get crazy ill just crank them down.
tbh i really want the tanabe coilovers. i think the idea of speed changing instead of static all the time is a great idea. i think its the way it should really be on all types of suspension. hell i might just sell the cuscos if i dont like them and just save up for the tanabes Teas,

I find it hard to believe the ride didn't decrease at all with the DMS's. I think if you compare it to a stock car the ride has to be worse.
Unless of course it you consider no bounce and hardly any give over large transitions to be good qualities which some do. The nice heaving of the stock dampers elongates the actual time to dissapate the bump. I sometimes would equate the coilovers working faster to be good ride but really I was kidding myself.
